James graduated with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art (Painting) from Camberwell School of Art in 1988.

Over the next 4 or 5 years he worked in graphic design, working for one of the 'big 4' Management Consultancies and subsequently freelanced for a wide range of top London design and branding agencies.

Following a contract in the mid 90s, developing the corporate identity at LIFFE in the City of London, James moved to Cambridge and designed websites for one of the UK's first web agencies.

He set up in James Atkins Design in 1997 and is currently based in the East Midlands and shortly; South West France.

James made a return to Fine Art in 2003, working with a mixture of digital and traditional media. He is currently unrepresented by any galleries or agents.
